A lionfish invasion is causing problems in the Atlantic Ocean near the beautiful vacation spot of Bermuda. On Oct. 21, UPI reported that these fish are coming into the Atlantic Ocean in huge numbers and scientists are afraid of what problems it could cause long-term.
These fish are capable of destroying 90% of a reef and will eat just about anything that they see except for humans. Of course the lionfish are gorgeous, but they do not want everything else that is out in the ocean to be killed off by them. They are not native to the Atlantic Ocean, but are slowly migrating to this area.
People in Bermuda are having fishing contests to catch them and are even having fish fries with the ones they catch. They are doing what they can to keep them from totally taking over the area. Seeing a lionfish used to be rare when you were going scuba diving, but now with the lionfish invasion they are everywhere.
