Disney's 'The Lion King 3D' will be released in theaters on September 16, 2011. Just about a month later, Lion King 3D will be available on Blu-Ray DVD, with a release date of October 4, 2011. A whole new generation will be introduced to this blockbuster coming of age Disney animation.
Lion King 3D in Theaters
To see 'The Lion King' 3D in theaters, viewers will receive a pair of special RealD 3D glasses. The special edition 3D glasses are orange and have a little Simba head between the lenses. The 3D version of the Disney classic will be in theaters for two weeks, beginning on September 16, 2011.
Lion King 3D on DVD
Disney will re-release The Lion King on Blu-Ray DVD on October 4, 2011. The DVDs are include high quality digital picture, hi-def sound and tons of bonus features. Those who pre-order the DVDs (before October 3, 2011) through DisneyMovieRewards.go.com will receive 200 bonus points for their Movie Rewards program.
The Original Lion King
The original 'Lion King' was released back in 1994. The opening weekend, around June 15th, drew in nearly $2 million. It grossed $771,900,000 worldwide. Matthew Broderick played the voice of the adult Simba. The evil lion Scar was voiced by James Earl Jones. Comedian Nathan Lane was the voice of Timon and Ernie Sabella as Pumba. Whoopie Goldberg gave life to the lioness Shenzi and Moira Kelly to the adult Nala. Other voices were provided by Rowan Atkinson (Zazu), Cheech marin (Banzai), Jeremy Irons (Scar) and Robert Guillame (Rafiki).
Story Summary
The Lion King is the story of a young lion, Simba, who was born to be the king. The birth infuriated his uncle Scar, as he was now second in line to the throne. The angry lion Scar then plots to kill King Mufasa and his young son Simba so that he can become king.
