Lion killed intern after escaping enclosure: Intern didn't enter cage

The Intern who was killed by the lion was not in the lion’s caged area when she was mauled. The lion escaped from his enclosure and attacked the intern who was in an exercise area of the Cat Haven Sanctuary, in this latest news Thursday night, March 7, 2013 from Fox News live.

The coroner reports that Dianna Hanson most likely died instantly as the lion broke her neck with his claw. The news that the lion escaped and went after Hanson is much different than what was previously reported, which was that Hanson entered the lion’s enclosure. This was off limits to her as an intern suggesting that she did something against the rules, this was reported earlier Thursday by ABC News .

The Cats Haven Sanctuary was closed to the public at the time the lion mauled Hanson. She was one of only two employees there at the time. The other employee tried to lure the lion away from Hanson so the paramedics could get to her, but the lion wouldn’t budge. This left the deputies no other option but to shoot the cat to get to Hanson who was badly injured and lying on the ground.

Hanson’s father talked with the media today and said that his daughter knew she couldn’t go into the enclosure with the lion, so he didn’t understand why she did. Now it is known that Dianna followed the rules apparently, it was the lion who broke lose and went after her.
