Lion Brand Yarn has been making fabulous fibers since 1878. A family owned and operated business, Lion Brand offers quality yarn at affordable prices. Their award winning website offers over 3,000 free patterns, instructions on learning to knit and crochet and a free weekly email newsletter.

New York yarnies are lucky to have the new Lion Brand Yarn Studio right in Manhattan's Garment District on 15th street between 5th and 6th Avenues. The Studio is not only a retail store but a university of fiber arts. On the first of each month, a two month schedule comes out with a variety of classes in both knitting and crochet. There are beginning, advanced and master classes for all levels of fiber artists. The classes fill up quickly, particularly the beginner knit and crochet sessions. For $50 you get two 90 minutes classes and all the materials needed to learn to knit or crochet your first scarf. Beyond the Basics classes are offered for $40 but if you book this class along with the beginner class you pay one fee of $75 for both. Additional classes are offered each month. The studio rotates among 75 different sessions so the variety offers something new for even the most seasoned knitters and crocheters. To sign up stop by or call the Studio for details. Remember, these classes fill up fast so be sure to book as soon as possible. Getting in touch with the Studio on the first of the month is a good way to get a seat in the class of your choice.

In addition to the classes, other fun events are offered for free. The second Thursday of each month is Yarncraft Night. It's a fun, relaxing group where yarn crafters can meet others and work on their projects. You can pick up some new yarn and print out one of the free Lion Brand projects to work on or bring your own. Seating is limited and it's first come first serve. The next Yarncraft night will be Thursday June 10th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Other free groups include the Amigurumi Club, the Friday afternoon Yarncrafting Group, Men's Night and "Flicks with Sticks" which includes a free movie while you knit or crochet.

One of best things about the Yarn Studio is the knowledgeable and friendly staff. Patty, the Studio manager, happily speaks about all the wonderful classes and yarns they offer plus offers opinions on customer purchases and projects. Staff members are experts happy to lend a hand and often are wearing their own knit or crocheted wardrobe pieces. Another great feature is the Sampling Wall where you can wind off a yard or two of the yarn of your choice to see how it works up or grab one of the many pairs of knitting needles or crochet hooks on the table and try one of the LB Collection of luxury fibers only available at the Studio or online. All of Lion Brand's yarns are offered at the Studio and the prices are perfect for the crafter on a budget.
