LinkedIn Quietly Launches #Hashtag Support & Search

Fans of the popular LinkedIn social network have a new feature that they can use starting today, #hashtags! While users have always been able to use #hashtags in their status updates or content they share, users on LinkedIn have not been able to do much with them. Most would include a #hashtag so that if the update is also shared on Twitter, people could join or see the conversation.

That all changes today. You'll see that if you find a person's update with a #hashtag, it will now be an active blue link. When you click on the #hashtag, it will bring you to a new LinkedIn search area (see the image above). Now you can link to or find other content that people are discussing with the same #hashtag.

This is an exciting next step in generating a sortable and searchable feed from LinkedIn. In the past, not many people would search for content on LinkedIn, but now with the #hashtag cross referencing people's posts, the idea of a threaded or continuing conversation is completely possible.

With this seemingly simple update, this shows LinkedIn is evolving and will continue to give Twitter, Facebook and G+ some competition.
