Lingerie League: Women's Football League changing name, shedding clothing (Photos)

The Lingerie Football League is a thing of the past. Well not really, but the league is making some big changes. According to NESN on Jan. 10, "The LFL is undergoing a re-branding process. The league will now be known as Legends Football League, despite “the tremendous success” of the Lingerie Football League."

Oh and by the way, the lingerie is also history. Well, I hate to say it, but that may put this league in the history column.

It's interesting that this league was designed and created as an attention getter, yet now they are changing the whole format.

In the full press release, the LFL said "This is the next step in the maturation of our now global sport. While the Lingerie Football League name has drawn great media attention allowing us to showcase the sport to millions, we have now reached a crossroad of gaining credibility as a sport or continuing to be viewed as a gimmick."

So in other words, out with the bras, garters and lingerie and most likely most of the fans!

I was personally never a fan of the LFL, but now that they are trying to be "taken seriously" will fans of the women's league still go to the games, or was the lingerie what brought the fans out in the first place?

Time will tell.
