According to an Oct. 2 post from LingerieFC.com, Lingerie Fighting Championships is set to debut on Oct. 16 on more than 100 cable systems across the country.
“LFC has it all. Drama. Bloody fights. And really hot girls rolling around in lingerie," league president Roni Taylor said. "What’s not to love?”
The league’s official web-site, www.lingeriefc.com, features fighter profiles, stats, articles, videos and much more.
The promotion's first event, ‘Lingerie Fighting Championships: Lace vs Leather’ will be available Oct. 16 on pay-per-view and anytime after that on video-on-demand. Fight fans are urged to check their local cable provider for availability.
“Despite what some people might think, we didn’t just cast based on looks," LFC creator and executive producer Shaun Donnelly said of the new league. "Each of the girls we selected come from a strong sports background. Several of the girls have ju-jitsu and muay-thai training, there’s a wrestler, a division one volleyball player, a competitive bodybuilder, a state champion swimmer, a football player and a gymnast.”
Some fight fans have accused the league of putting more emphasis on how a girl looks in the cage over how she performs in it.
"That's nonsense," Taylor says. "Each of our fighters come from strong athletic backgrounds. Just because you're a ring girl doesn't mean you can't be an athlete. Jody played 4 years of division 1 volleyball and Cali was a competitive gymnast. Look at their bodies - do you think they got those by sitting on the sofa watching TV?!"
Lingerie Fighting Championships clearly propels WMMA in a positive direction, as the league does fine job celebrating the female athletic build while setting a classy example for young, aspiring female fighters across the globe.
The first bout of the night will see newcomer Michelle ‘Scrapper’ Blanchard take on MMA vet Tara ‘Guillotine’ Gaddy. Blanchard is a member of the Los Angeles lingerie football team.
“This is history in the making,” Taylor says. “She’s the world’s first two sport lingerie athlete. And she looks damn good in her lingerie, let me tell you.”
The second bout pits Helen ‘Ignite’ Mei and her 6-2 record against Suzanne ‘Hawaiian Punch’ Nakata. Nakata has made a stunning turn around, reeling off 8 straight wins after beginning her career 0-7. Oddsmakers expect Nakata’s streak to come to an end against the much larger Mei.
Former teammates Jenevieve ‘The Sorceress’ Serpentine and Samiha ‘The Goddess’ Glam will be fighting in a surprising move by the league. The pair are best friends and training partners but there will be no love lost in the cage. Serpentine boasts an impressive 5-1 record while Glam is 4-2.
Glam made headlines recently when it was revealed she had lost more than 125lbs after at first being rejected by the league. “Let’s just say she didn’t fit our mold,” Taylor says. “But she came back looking the way she does now and that’s why she’s in the Lingerie Fighting Championships, that’s why.”
