The lineup of performers for “Get Back”, the concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles in Seattle in 1964 has just been announced. In the Synergia Northwest 2014 press statement of August 14, 2014, the performers will include some legends of the Northwest, “an all-star cast spanning generations” including members of Heart, Foo Fighters, the Original Kingsmen, Rangehoods, and more.
The concert occurs on August 23, 2014 at McCaw Hall at 8:00. It will be hosted by Pat O’Day, legendary icon of the Seattle area who first introduced the Beatles on stage at Seattle Coliseum on August 21, 1964, as well as Marco Collins. The musicians “will pay homage to the lads from Liverpool by performing the original set the Beatles performed at the 1964 Seattle Coliseum concert.” Songs from Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” will follow, “performed in its entirety with special guest musicians and singers paying tribute to the iconic album.” The Sgt. Pepper performance will be backed by 50-piece Synergia Northwest Orchestra.
Also to be performed is the Northwest premiere of Sir Paul McCartney’s classical composition “Celebration” from “Standing Stone”, his second full-length release of classical music.
The Beatles stayed at the Edgewater Hotel during their visit in 1964, requiring barricades to be erected around the hotel for their safety. This is where the Beatles were photographed fishing out the window of their suite, now preserved in Suite 272 as “The Beatles Suite.” The Beatles 1964 show consisted of twelve songs including “Twist and Shout,” “All My Loving,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “She Loves You” and “I Want To Hold Your Hand.”
“Get Back” musicians will feature iconic musicians from the northwest including Ben Smith (Heart), Nate Mendel (Foo Fighters), Barry Curtis and Friends (Kingsmen), Kris Orlowski, Jeff Angell (Walking Papers), Spike and the Impalers (on horns) and many more. See the McCaw Hall website for a full list of performers. Tickets range from $36.50 - $86.50 and can be purchased at the box office at Key Arena, at Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000, TDD (800) 943-4327.
Ironically, Paul McCartney performed at Candlestick Park, San Francisco last night, August 14, 2014 in its final concert before demolition. The Beatles performed their final concert here forty-six years ago on August 29, 1966.
