Lindsey Vonn was airlifted after a tragic crash at the Ski World Championships. Vonn had to be airlifted off the mountain, with several onlookers fearing the worst. According to a report from Tuesday (Feb. 5), one of her teammates took to Twitter after the scary crash. Mikaela Shiffrin posted, "She has to be OK... Please be OK." Brian Temmle, a fellow skier, tweeted, "It doesn't look good at all."
An updated report stated that Vonn lost her balance on her right leg while she was landing a jump. That ski came off immediately and sent her sliding off the course. She would then hit a gate before coming to a halt on the side of the mountain. None of it sounds good and it sounds like they are partly blaming this crash on the bad weather. Lingering fog had postponed the race for 3 1/2 hours before they were able to get back on the course.
The latest from the Associated Press is that Vonn has an injured right knee, but the reports are sketchy due to where the race is taking place (Austria). That Lindsey Vonn got airlifted from the crash is a scary enough revelation, but sports fans everywhere are hoping that it turns out she is all right. Expect an update to this story to come as soon as sports sites like ESPN get caught up on this breaking news.
Update: Vonn tore her cruciate and lateral ligaments. Both in her right leg. Beyond that, she has no serious injuries.
