The good news: Lindsay Lohan's latest scheme doesn't involve drugs, deception or drunk driving. The bad news: It's dangerous to her health. Here's the skinny: In an attempt to look fabulous for her "Saturday Night Live" hosting gig later in September, Lindsay is trying to lose 20 pounds in 20 days by going on the Master Cleanse detoxing juice fast, reported Xpose Entertainment on September 15.
Since leaving rehab after fulfilling her 90 days of court-ordered drug and alcohol abuse treatment, Lindsay wants to restore her reputation and her career. She hopes that the Master Cleanse fast will help her look her best.
''It's really extreme, she hasn't even got 20 lb to lose. But Lindsay won't listen to anyone. She's paranoid about having a double chin and is convinced that getting skinny again will mean more film roles,'' said a source.
What's the Master Cleanse diet? Beyonce used it to shed 20 pounds quickly for "Dreamgirls," and the drastic fasting plan calls for a concoction of lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. Sometimes known as the Lemonade Diet, it supposedly detoxifies your body while providing for quick weight loss.
Lindsay's friends are concerned about the impact of this diet on Lindsay's health. A source told Heat magazine: ''They're worried this diet is just another way for her to abuse herself. And when she's low on energy, that's when her defenses are down, which is a problem for someone who's only just come out of rehab.''
And their concerns are valid. If she follows the strict plan, she'll be avoiding food and drinking minimal calories. The plan lacks protein, vitamins, carbohydrates and other essential nutrients, according to WebMD. Dieters on the plan sip six or more servings daily of a concoction consisting of:
- 2 tablespoons fresh-squeezed lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons grade-B organic maple syrup
- 1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 10 ounces filtered water
Master cleanse fans follow the fast for four to 14 days, then shift into solid foods such as vegetable soup, fruits and vegetables. Side effects can include fatigue, dizziness, nausea and headaches, none of which will help Lindsay achieve her goal of enjoying a healthy lifestyle.
