Lindsay Lohan accepted a last minute plea deal in an L.A. court Monday for lying to cops last June, following her crash on the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica. Lindsay almost missed the court date, arriving nearly 50 minutes late after passing up two flights before finally jetting to the west coast on a private plane. Lohan had rejected any form of punishment previously, alleging she was not guilty of anything and insisting she had no alcohol or substance abuse problem. But the “Mean Girls” actress had a change of heart when faced with the possibility of another jail term. Lindsay is apparently scared of returning to jail, so instead of risking a prison sentence in a trial, she opted for the rehab option, according to TMZ on Tuesday, March 19.
Lindsay’s change of heart allegedly occurred as she jetted west, with the fear of jail looming over her head. She told friends she likes the rehab option, “because it will allow her to focus on herself without any distractions”.
However, Lohan is still adamantly insisting she does not have any alcohol or substance abuse problems. This is hard to swallow since she’s spent 250 days in five rehab facilities since January 2007, including one long court-ordered stint after a failed drug test.
She also has two past DUIs. Experts say it’s unlikely the rehab stay will ultimately do any good for the troubled “Liz & Dick” star since the first step in any recovery is admitting you have a problem.
Lindsay, 26, accepted the guilty plea on the three misdemeanors and took a 90 sentence in a locked rehabilitation facility. She will also be required to perform 30 days of community service in New York, and attend 18 months of psychotherapy, according to the L.A. Times.
Lindsay faced one misdemeanor count each of reckless driving, providing false information to an officer and willfully resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer stemming from the June auto accident.
Lohan claimed she wasn’t driving the Porsche SUV that slammed into the back of a dump truck. Her former assistant Gavin Doyle was prepared to testify against her in the case.
She also faced a probation violation for a 2011 shoplifting conviction involving taking a necklace from a Venice jewelry store, which could have sent her back to jail for up to 245 days.
The fact that Ms. Lohan was nearly 50 minutes late for court only continues to show her lack of respect for the justice system. It serves to show how the beleaguered actress is still trying to assert her celebrity power over the court.
