Lindsay Lohan was due in a Manhattan courtroom today to face third-degree assault charges over her Nov. 29 arrest at Club Avenue. Lindsay allegedly punched a psychic in the face. Since Lindsay wasn’t required to attend, she chose to stay in London where she partied until dawn with friends Saturday. Ironically her lawyer made a prediction of his own, that 26 year-old Lohan won’t face any charges over the fight, according to The L.A. Times today. Meanwhile as the court date loomed, mom Dina Lohan dropped a bombshell by telling the N.Y. Daily News Sunday that Lindsay Lohan’s problems stem from her abusive father Michael, whom she allegedly witnessed physically abusing her mother growing up.
Just when you thought the mess that is this family couldn’t get any worse, now Dina Lohan, 50, is speaking out about alleged physical assaults and even a rape by her ex-husband Michael.
Dina says a photo of her with a black and blue eye from 1986 recently inspired her to come forward about the abuse. She alleges that the eye injury was a result of Michael punching her closed fist in the face while he was on an alcohol and cocaine-fueled binge.
The two had dined out, and on the way home, Dina says, “he was drunk-driving and suddenly he started screaming, ‘Get the f--- out of the car!’ ” That’s when he punched her.
Michael Lohan’s version is that he did slap her in the face at home, only after she attacked him first with an ice tray. Medical records show that Dina was treated for “blunt trauma” to the face on Dec. 4, 1986.
Dina claims that was the first of several assaults that occurred over time, but that she never reported them because he was in and out of jail several times over securities fraud charges.
Dina Lohan was a 19 year-old singer and dancer when she fell hard for the arrogant young Wall Street trader she met at the Surf Club in New York City. But almost immediately after getting married, she says Michael’s dark side emerged.
“Michael was addicted to cocaine, like most stockbrokers back then. He had a lot of bad stuff going on”, Dina said. The two eventually separated and Dina took her children and moved in with her parents.
On Valentine’s Day 1990, Dina claims Michael showed up at her parents house, and while the children were sleeping, raped her. “[They] were sleeping, and I just knew I had to stay quiet - I don’t want to wake them”, she said.
When her parents returned, they insisted she go to the hospital. Nassau County Hospital medical records do show that Dina did go to the ER and reported a rape. She was examined by doctors, and her clothes and other evidence was gathered in a rape kit.
Dina failed to press charges, claiming that once again her husband was already on his way to jail. Michael did three years for insider trading before being released. He calls her version of events “revisionist history”, and insists the sex was consensual.
Meanwhile, fast forward to Lindsay Lohan’s current troubles. She may escape charges being officially filed in the NY assault case, but she still has the three misdemeanors from her Santa Monica car accident looming over her.
After cops determined she had lied about being the driver in the wreck, she was charged with three more misdemeanors, lying to cops, obstruction, and reckless driving. A judge later revoked her probation for her jewelry heist conviction.
The L.A. Times reports that after today’s postponement, Lohan’s attorney, Mark Jay Heller, told the press that Lindsay was, “a victim of someone trying to capture their 15 minutes of fame”.
Lindsay is due back in the L.A. court on Jan. 15 for a hearing that could determine if those charges will trigger her being sent back to prison for up to 245 days.
