Lindsay Lohan, singer?

Well, maybe not, but Lohan is a backer of the new Just Sing It 2.0 app which hit the Apple iOS Store this morning.

Just Sing It 2.0 is a free app, and developers are calling it the "Instagram of Karaoke."

I look at it more as kind of an online American Idol meets Star Search.

Just Sing It 2.0 is the updated version of Just Sing it that had over 1,000,000 "sings" in the first month of launch. The app is also the first karaoke app to convert virtual gifts, in this case, diamonds, to real life gifts (iTunes Credit) so there is something to shoot for.

“Just Sing It takes karaoke to the next level”, explains Lohan, Just Sing It adviser and a fan of the app. “You can literally bring the party in your pocket. I love spontaneous sing-offs with friends and family and discovering new talent.”

Discovering new talent may be what this app ends up being all about.

"It's not as much of a game as it is aimed more at social media," explains Alec Andronikov, Just Sing It CEO. “Singers wanted to perform to big groups, not just peer-to-peer. They also wanted to sing any song as well as their own original content; while the listeners wanted to sit back, enjoy songs and interact more openly with the singer. So, we effectively brought singers to the audience."

Andronikov has also been pleased with Lohan's involvement.

"She (and her team) are very involved and she's an advser to the business."

It's actually pretty interactive. The singers or listeners can buy those diamonds to reward a good performance. The iTunes gift cards are good incentive.

And you never know who else might be watching- a talent agent, music producer or even Lohan herself.

"There is that talent discovery angle," says Andronikov.

For that alone, if you think you have singing talent, you need to give Just Sing It a try.

Just Sing It 2.0 launched today and it's available in the Apple iOS App Store.
