'Lincoln' snags Oscar nomination for Original Score recorded by Chicago Symphony

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra announced on Facebook that composer John Williams’ music for the movie Lincoln earned an Oscar® nomination for Original Score. Williams conducted and recorded the film score with the CSO at Chicago's Orchestra Hall in May of 2012. The soundtrack also features solos by CSO principal players including Concertmaster Robert Chen and Principal Trumpet Christopher Martin.

This is the first time that the CSO has been connected to an Oscar® nomination, although the orchestra has won more than 60 Grammy® awards. John Williams has garnered five Academy Awards® for films including Jaws, Star Wars, and Schindler's List. Lincoln is Williams’ 48th Oscar nomination.

Other Original Score nominees include Anna Karenina by Darío Marionelli, Argo by Alexandre Desplat, Life of Pi by Mychael Danna, and Skyfall by Thomas Newman.

The Academy Awards® will take place on Sunday, Feb. 24th at 8 pm CST
