Washington, D.C. --- Police are investigating a fatal shooting that was reported in the 500 block of 48th Place NE late Wednesday.
Police say around 11:45 p.m., officers from the 6th District responded to the 500 block of 48th Place NE to investigate the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers found an unconscious adult male in the alley in the rear of the 500 block of 48th Place NE.
EMS personnel responded, but found no signs consistent with life. The victim had been suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The decedent was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner pending an autopsy and a determination of a cause and manner of death.
Police have identified the decedent as 46-year-old James Baxter of Bowie, Maryland.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
