Lincecum earns first win as Giants beat Dodgers 5-3

The San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 on Wednesday night to win the first three-game rivalry series of the year.

The Giants victory was largely due in part to phenomenal effort from the bullpen, and a Pablo Sandoval two-run homer off Josh Beckett in the third.

Tim Lincecum walked seven batters to match his career high, throwing only 46-of-91 pitches for strikes. Yet he battled through five innings allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out four to earn his first win.

He also drove in Gregor Blanco in the third on a ground-out to short.

Jose Mijares loaded the bases after relieving Lincecum, but George Kontos got the Giants out of the sixth inning with a double-play grounder.

Javier Lopez entered in the seventh to get lefty Adrian Gonzalez out, and Chad Gaudin was solid in his two innings of work.

Sergio Romo closed out the ninth to convert his second save opportunity.

Angel Pagan and Hunter Pence also had one RBI apiece to help the Giants effort.

Beckett (0-1) took the loss for the Dodgers after giving up five runs on six hits in six innings.
