Limbaugh asserts Obama deliberately causing economic pain for political gain

Following the initiation of the sequester cuts in government and the two weeks of President Obama campaigning against them, Rush Limbaugh on Monday declared that Obama and the media proved his theorem. The “Limbaugh Theorem,” as he labels it, posits that Barack Obama wants to inflict as much economic pain and suffering as possible on the American people through his policies while being seen as campaigning against them. He is, Limbaugh declares, the first president in history that wanted people to suffer so that he could lay the blame on Republicans, turn the people against them, and win back control of both Houses of Congress in 2014 to have the power to further his agenda in his last two years without impediment.

Limbaugh Theorem

Numerous commentators at FOX News including Brit Hume and Bill O’Reilly came to a similar conclusion. Limbaugh referred to the poll in the New York Times on February 12 in which the majority of the people were dissatisfied with the way the country was going but a majority believed Obama was doing a good job. This disconnect, he averred, was the reason Obama was re-elected. Never before, said Rush, has a president not been held accountable, fairly or not, for the economy. To this day a majority of Americans hold George Bush responsible for the collapse of 2007-8, but only a minority hold Barack Obama responsible for the economy of the last four years. Limbaugh believes that Obama is realizing he cannot blame Bush forever and wants to use the sequester as the new scapegoat to pin it on Republicans, and that this is why the White House became so angry with Bob Woodward for admitting that it was Obama’s idea.
