New Year’s Eve was the day of long-awaited celebration for Lily Tomlin and her partner of 42 years, Jane Wagner. According to a Jan. 7 report by Wetpaint, the couple got married at long last. Lily’s rep said the ceremony was a private affair held in Los Angeles.
People magazine said the couple first became acquainted during the 1970s when Lily was searching for someone to work on developing her Sesame Street character, Edith Ann. More recently, the power couple has worked together on “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe,” a Tony Award-winning show.
Tomlin, 74, has appeared on shows like “Laugh-In”, “The West Wing”, Lisa Kudrow’s show, “Web Therapy,” and the Reba McEntire series, “”Malibu Country.” Her past films include “Nashville” for which she earned an Academy Award nomination and “9 to 5.” Wagner, 78, has earned three Primetime Emmys for her work in the entertainment industry.
When the Supreme Court ruled the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional, Tomlin hinted that she and Wagner might make the journey down the aisle. She said marriage wasn’t a necessity but “awfully nice.” She said others had told her how it made a difference and made them very, very happy. Now she and Jane can be happy, too.
