Just a few weeks ago, rising starlet Lily Collins was cast in the upcoming reboot of cult classic The Evil Dead. According to a report by Variety yesterday, Collins has now dropped out of the film due to scheduling issues.

The Last Exorcism 2 will film in New Orleans
Collins would have been playing Mia, a drug addict hoping to detox during a weekend at a remote cabin. Just like in the original, one of her companions would read from the Book of the Dead and unwittingly unleash body possessing demons into the cabin. Mia is also said to be the reboot’s female equivalent of Ash, the main character from the original who was portrayed by cult favorite Bruce Campbell. Campbell says that he will still have something to do with this new film, even though his beloved character won’t make an appearance.

Unlike promised updates of classics like Carrie and Child’s Play, it looks like a reboot of The Evil Dead will actually happen. Filming is scheduled to begin in New Zealand this March, and the movie is set for an April 2013 release. But Collins, arguably the most well-known of those involved, is now out and the involvement of Diablo Cody, the other big name attached to the film, is pretty limited (she says she revised the script written by director Fede Alvarez but has no idea if they’ll even use her draft). How much buzz will the reboot get? The original was well-known, but mostly to hardcore horror buffs. Will a reboot gain traction? As usual, keep checking back for more updates on The Evil Dead and more horror movies, and cross your fingers and hope for the best for this reboot.
