Another NBA game has seen Lil Wayne ejected, or was he? This time around it was a game with the LA Lakers taking on the Miami Heat in Florida, although reports vary over whether Weezy of YMCMB was tossed, or left on his own. He now adds this to last year's NBA fan resume bullet point of being "denied entry" to a Thunder game.
According to a report from UPI.com on Feb. 10, Wayne tweeted to his almost 10 million Twitter followers that he had been ejected from American Airlines Arena on Sunday. The reason for the ejection wasn't because he was emulating Spike Lee courtside at a Knicks game. Instead it was due to him cheering for the visiting Lakers. He tweeted of the incident:
"So I'm @ da Heat game right, rootin 4 da Lakers kuz dats my team & would u believe they got police 2 make me leave?! Wow!"
An upset Weezy later added in his thoughts about the Miami pro basketball team leading off with an expletive:
".... da Heat."
A fan named Danny Vega gave an account of Wayne's incident, saying the rapper got into an argument with security. That happened after a "random guy yelled at Lil Wayne" which caused the rap star to look back at the fan and offer a "mean stare." In addition, Vega says Wayne made a gesture that "he had a gun." However, a Heat spokeswoman, Lorrie-Ann Diaz, gave a different story, saying "Lil Wayne was not kicked out but instead chose to leave." So it's still unknown what the real reason was that the rapper left the game.
Last year saw an incident occur at the Oklahoma City Thunder's arena involving Lil Wayne being refused inside the building. The hip hop star behind several successful songs and albums claimed he was denied entry to the Chesapeake Energy Arena during last year's Western Conference Finals. However, a spokesperson for the Thunder said it was due to Wayne not having a ticket to the game.
So is Lil Wayne becoming the most obnoxious celebrity NBA fan who attends live games, or tries to attend them? Maybe he needs to take notes from Jack Nicholson and Spike Lee who tend to stay for the entire game and get to have dialogues with players on the court, while occasionally yelling at the refs too.
Lil Wayne is set to release multiple projects in the future, including "I Am Not a Human Being II" scheduled for late March, and a collaborative album with other members of his Young Money crew to release later in 2013.
