The Downtown LA premiere of historical narrative short film "Little Tokyo Reporter" will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Downtown Independent Theater—formerly the Linda Lea Theater, which in its heyday specialized in Japanese films for the local community of Little Tokyo.
Set in 1935 Los Angeles, the film is based on the true story of community leader Sei Fujii, who uncovers the corrupt activities of his community's underground mafia and must choose between saving the face of his deteriorating community and confronting the issues head on through his newspaper.
The cast includes Chris Tashima, Keiko Agena, Eijiro Ozaki, Ikuma Ando, Sewell Whitney, Garret T. Sato, Hiro Matsunaga, and Lani Nishiyama.
It was directed by Jeffrey Gee Chin. The screenplay was written by Chin and Guinevere Turner
There will be a Q&A session with the film's director, producers and actors after each show.
An on-going reception with light refreshments will be presented in the lobby, and will include souvenir sales to help fund further exhibition of the film.
Low-cost parking will be available next to the theater. Tickets are $9, senior/students $7.
