According to TSN on Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Lightning have traded Airdrie-raised Dana Tyrell to the Coumbus Blue Jackets.

Airdrie, Alberta is located half an hour north of Calgary.

Tyrell was traded to Columbus with defenseman Matt Taormina for Jonathan Marchessault and left winger Dalton Smith.

Tyrell and Taormina hae zero points in seven games each for the Lightning this season. Out of the four players in the trade, Tyrell has the most experience because he has played 132 career games, with seven goals, 17 assists and 24 points. Despite going pointless this year, Tyrell is on track of setting a career high in plus/minus where is currently at zero. Marchessault has zero points as well in limited action.

Both the Blue Jackets and Lightning are currently in playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. Both franchises have the wildcard spots, with Tampa Bay at 73 points and Columbus at 69 points.

It is also interesting that both teams traded their top forwards at the deadline despite being in the playopf hunt. Tampa Bay traded Martin St. Louis to the New York Rangers and Columbus traded Marian Gaborik to Los Angeles.
