Fans of the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy were disappointed when Square Enix confirmed that the final installment Lightning Returns would only let the player control a party of one, with that member being Lightning. However, the developer released a trailer at Gamescom today which briefly shows our protagonist fighting alongside Fang, indicating that you may occasionally find yourself controlling more than just one character, contrary to their earlier statements.
In the trailer we also get a brief look at how the relationship between Lightning and her now deceased sister's fiancee, Snow have changed for the worst. Things appear very tense with what seems like inevitable doom on the horizon.
There will be some more lighthearted moments though as you'll find yourself visiting the last bastion of the Moogles and visiting Sazh who is still stressing over his son Dajh.
Our concerns remain with the size of the cast which appears to be dwindling. As our favorite characters keep narrowly avoiding doom the world seems to become filled with less and less interactions which was a highlight of the first game.
What are your hopes for Lightning Returns? The game is set to release February worldwide except for Japan where it releases this November.
