In an interview with Nova Crystallis that was published on Jan. 20, Yoshinori Kitase talked a little bit about the DLC in the upcoming multiplatform title, “Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.” The producer of the role-playing game first revealed that fans wanted downloadable costumes to have in-game effects instead of just providing an aesthetic change. You can check out some screens from the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 video game in the slideshow at the top of this article and the comments from Yoshinori Kitase below (courtesy of Nova Crystallis):
One example is the costumes that provided an aesthetic change to Noel and Serah. Feedback suggested that perhaps in addition to a visual change, maybe costumes should have an effect in-game – things like stat boosts, or other battle advantages. This feedback has been taken and applied to Lightning Returns.
Although “Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII” will have costume DLC, it won’t feature an expansion that will add more plot points to the story like in “Final Fantasy XIII-2.” Yoshinori Kitase provided the following explanation as to why that will be the case:
Following their release, players voiced concerns of confusion and frustration, saying that they didn’t really add anything to the main part of the story.
“Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII” is slated to come out sometime in autumn of this year for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. The role-playing game is being developed by Square Enix 1st Production Department and will be published by Square Enix.
