Lighting of the 2012 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree: How, when to watch (Photos)

The full Christmas season is here and everyone is already preparing with shopping, decorating, and making plans. One of the most anticipated moments each year though is the lighting of the tree, and especially in New York. The 2012 Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting will take place at 8:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, on NBC.

NBC is going to air the special titled "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" as they do every single year complete with celebrity performances. Live and pre-recorded performances will air during the NBC special as viewers wait for the lighting.

The performers include:

A number of other celebrities will be performing or appearing to make the Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting to help make it special. Making it even better is that the tree was donated by Joe Balku from Mount Olive, New Jersey.

The reason that is so special is that the tree was donated by Balku after being at his home for over 40 years and having to be removed due to Hurricane Sandy. It measures over 50 feet in diameter, stands 80-feet-tall, and weighs well over 10 tons.

The Rockefeller Christmas tree is a true icon of the season and is there for all of the public to see in Rockefeller Center in New York. Once lit for the first time on Nov. 28, 2012, it will stay lit everyday from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. until Jan. 7, 2013.
