The event returns back to Sandy Hook after the race had to be moved to Eatontown last year due to the detestation from Hurricane Sandy at Sandy Hook.

The race starts at 9:30 a.m. with check in at the Lighthouse starting at 8:00 a.m.

It is a flat and fast 5K course which starts appropriately by the Lighthouse on Sandy Hook.

Runners are strongly encouraged to pre-register prior to April 15, 2014 to avoid the price increase and assure their event shirt.

The National Park Service approved the use of the park for the event this past December.

The event benefits the New Jersey Blind Citizens Association and Camp Happiness - a nonprofit resource set up to provide education and activities for all members.

According to Race Director, Joe Freeman of Eatontown, N.J., “The Eatontown Lions Club started the event to promote the Association and the good work they do. The event is unique in that Seeing Eye Dog groups that include dogs, puppies and handlers come from all across the state to participate.”

This is a great opportunity to check out Sandy Hook prior to the summer season and participate in a worthwhile event for a great cause.

For those interested in training for their first 5K or just want to get fit for the summer - a beginner's running group will be starting on May 13, 2014 in the Spring Lake, N.J. area, Check it out and get ready to run a 5K.
