Lighter Side of Tech: Top 10 Movie Fight Scenes on YouTube

I am going to forget the order because they are all pretty awesome.  This Top 10 is so that you don't have to scrounge around on YouTube for good fight scenes

  1. Old Boy: If you have not seen it yet, you should.  Not for the weak of heart, this is a movie that kicks some butt.  Oldboy  is a 2003 South Korean film directed by Park Chan-wook and is based on a Japanese Manga. It is the second installment of The Vengeance Trilogy, preceded by Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and followed by Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. The film won the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and director Quentin Tarantino, tried, but was not able to persuade the members of the jury to give it the Palme d'Or over Fahrenheit 9/11. All the fight sequences are good, but this one is one of the best:

Eastern Promises: Eastern Promises is a 2007 crime drama film directed by David Cronenberg, from a screenplay written by Steven Knight. The film tells of a British midwife's interactions with the Russian Mafia in London and stars Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts.  The film is known for its realistic depiction of the Russian criminal underworld, including its use of tattoos.  And yes, apologies for the Benny Hill soundtrack.

  • Kill Bill: Kill Bill is directed by Quentin Tarantino and stars Uma Thurman as The Bride. The movie is an epic-length revenge drama, with many homages and references to several martial arts movies, samurai movies, exploitation films and Italian spaghetti westerns.  It used popular music and pop culture references; and was known for its aestheticization of violence. Kill Bill has several fight scenes that are very good, but this is my favorite, particularly as it is unexpected.

  • Matrix:  The Matrix is a science fiction-action film written and directed by Larry and Andy Wachowski and starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, and Carrie-Anne Moss. The film is about a future world in which reality perceived by humans is not really but is actually the Matrix.  Computer programmer "Neo" is the lead ebel. This is another movie just filled with good fight scenes but this one in the lobby is pure genius
  •  Spiderman:  Another great fight scene from one of the biggest hits ever.  The film received multiple good reviews, went on to break box office records, and became the third highest grossing film of 2002 worldwide, making $822 million. According to Wiki, Spider-Man is the most successful film based on a comic book and is the 18th most successful film of all time.

  •  Protector: The Protector is a 1985 Hong Kong / US action film, directed by James Glickenhaus and starring Jackie Chan.

  • Transporter:  The Transporter  is a 2002 French action movie directed by Corey Yuen. Luc Besson was inspired by BMW Films' "The Hire" series to create this movie. The Transporter stars Jason Statham as Frank Martin.
  • Quantum of Solace:   How can you talk action movies without bringing in James Bond?  Daniel Craig, one the best Bonds ever knows his stuff when it comes to fighting.  Quantum of Solace (2008) is the 22nd James Bond film and sequel to Casino Royale. It is directed by Marc Forster, and of course it features Daniel Craig.

  • Matrix Reloaded:  The Matrix Reloaded is, of course, the second installment in The Matrix trilogy released in 2003 and  written and directed by the Wachowski Brothers. Matrix 1 will always be #1 but the other Matrix movies had great fight scenes too
  • Equilibrium: A 2002 science fiction/action film written and directed by Kurt Wimmer, starring Christian Bale and Taye Diggs, with one of the best fight scenes ever

[from Entertainment Weekly, May 4, 2009]

"... Hirschberg got Tarantino to reminisce on Pulp Fiction's 1994 Cannes debut ("there were some boos") and defend the prestigious Palme d'Or that his jury granted to Fahrenheit 9/11 in 2004 ("As time has gone on, I've put that decision under a microscope and I still think we were right")? For the record, I still think you were right, too, Quentin."
