Light snow, very cold temperatures for Denver’s Tuesday

A storm system passing to our south has brought light snow to the Mile High City, something which will linger into tonight. Accompanying the snow is bitter cold that will only go down from here.

Most locations are already seeing light snow this morning and will throughout the day. Only light accumulations are expected however with 1 to 2 inches in the Denver metro area.

The foothills, Palmer Divide and southern areas will see more, perhaps 3 to 5 inches. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for eastern Elbert and Lincoln counties where the snow coupled with wind will create hazardous conditions.

Throughout the entire week periods of snow can be expected but only with light accumulations.

The real story is going to be the cold temperatures that begin today and will last into the weekend. Highs today are going to top out in the upper teens and tonight the mercury is expected to plunge below zero.

Even colder weather awaits tomorrow when highs could stay in the single digits followed by overnight lows again below zero. Thursday warms up slightly into the teens followed by the 20s Friday and Saturday.

Sunday should see clearing and temperatures remaining below normal but at least climbing above freezing.
