Some light rain, and in some cases wet snow, showers were occurring across the Capital Region early this morning. This was in response to a disturbance zipping across the Canadian border. This activity should slowly wane through the morning hours, allowing for a mix of sun and clouds by the afternoon as high pressure reasserts control over the region’s weather.
A powerful area of low pressure over the central plains will lift northward toward the upper Great Lakes during the day today and overnight tonight. The system’s warm front will sweep toward the area, from the southwest, during the day on Halloween. Some light showers will be possible with the passage of the frontal system, and this may unfortunately be timed right during peak trick-or-treating hours. In short, some rain drops may have to be dodged. In addition, a southerly to southwesterly breeze should begin to pick up during this time frame as well.
Friday morning will see a occluded frontal system (weaker version of a cold front) approach the region as the low pressure system reaches maturity over southeastern Canada. Mild air is expected head of the frontal boundary, along with gusty southwesterly winds. These winds will shift to the west late in the day as the frontal system moves east of the region, however, blustery conditions are expected to persist.
Lots of clouds are expected Saturday, as another weak system passes through the region. Conditions slowly improve by Sunday, however, brisk and gusty winds are expected from the northwest by this time, as high pressure slowly builds in from the center of the nation.
After spiking above normal Thursday and Friday, temperatures slowly retreat to near to slightly below normal, by the weekend and early next week.
