Lifting the gag order in John Gardner case

Much to the dismay of the victims’ parents, the judges lifted the gag order on John Gardner, the killer of local teenagers Amber Dubois and Chelsea King.

What does this mean? It means that the details of what John Gardner did to his victims are disclosed. And the Dubois and King families don’t want to hear the gory details of how their beloved girls were raped and murdered. The good news is that, apparently, neither does anyone else at this time.

We live in an age when bloodthirsty brutality has been made banal. It’s on almost every TV channel – and in abundance. And studies show that this increase in violence could well be linked to an increase in crime.

The Kings feel that bringing the details of the crime to light would be like picking at an unhealed wound – their own and the community’s.

Is it right to expose the gruesome details of a murder to the public? If it’s not useful, if it doesn’t prevent future crimes, then it could help perpetrate them by providing evil fodder for warped minds.

“But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.” (Jude 1:10, American King James Version).

More spiritual perspective here.

How unfortunate Janey. But nothing is shocking in these days we are in. Disgusting. Great article!

One has to ask - who does benefit from the gag order being lifted? Is it just so that journalists can create stories that will attract the readers' desire for sensationalism? It is a very sad world we live in where their rights supercede the rights of the parents who have been so devastated already. Our only hope is in the Lord. People, make sure you are fighting on the right side of truth. Thanks Janey for bringing these important issues to our attention so we can pray!!
