On Thursday, Lifetime gave a series order to “Witches of East End” for 10 episodes set to air later this year. Julia Ormond, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Rachel Boston and Mädchen Amick will star in the drama.
“Witches of East End” is based on the best-selling novel by Melissa de la Cruz and centers on Joanna Beauchamp (Ormond) and her adult daughters Freya (Dewan-Tatum) and Ingrid (Boston), neither of whom knows they are their families next generation of witches. They live quiet, uneventful lives in the secluded seaside town of East Haven.
Once Freya becomes engaged to a young, wealthy newcomer, a series of events forces Joanna to admits to her daughters they are powerful, immortal witches. Amick plays Joanna’s mischievous sister Wendy. The pilot was written by Maggie Friedman and directed by Mark Waters.
“We’ve been thrilled about ‘Witches of East End’ and its powerful premise since the moment we bought the property and our friends at Fox 21 helped develop it for television,” Rob Sharenow, Lifetime Networks’ executive vice president of programming, said in a press statement. “This is one of the most exciting ensemble casts we’ve seen and the whole show is fresh, original and just right for Lifetime.”
