Award-winning actress Angela Basset will make her directorial debut in a Lifetime original movie based on the turbulent life of R&B singer Whitney Houston, Eonline is reporting today. The Whitney Houston biopic will touch on her rise to fame and the success of her first album to her passionate but stormy relationship with bad boy Bobby Brown.The biographical film titled "Whitney Houston," is set to premiere in 2015.
It will be produced by The Sanitsky Company and is based on a script by Shem Bitterman, according to MultiChannel News. "The American Horror Story" actress is excited about bringing Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's true story to the screen in a responsible way. She goes on to say that she has a regard for their "amazing talents."
The beloved "I Will Always Love You" singer died in a hotel in 2012. Her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, has remained somewhat estranged from the family, including her father Bobby Brown, her grandmother Cissy Houston and her aunt Pat Houston.
Bobbi Kristina is now married to Nick Gordon.
