We think you're near Los Angeles

LifeGivers Book Tour Day 1

Whether you signed up for this book tour back in April or if you are merely here to read what book tourists have to say, welcome to the second Open Adoption Examiner book tour! It's the tour that takes place from the comfort of your own sitting area, so get yourself some coffee or tea and pull up a virtual chair. And while it's nice to have read the selected book, it's not required.

For the next three days, we are delving into the first parent perspective with a book by James L Gritter that was first published in 2000, LifeGivers.

A bit of explanation. Readers of this space who signed up for this book tour spent April and May reading LifeGivers.  Participants then contributed questions for the rest of the group to discuss and for the author to answer. Each tourist received a list of questions from which to choose, and each will answer those questions on his/her own blog or other personal space. A list of these blogs/spaces begins below.

Who participated? First parents. Adoptive parents and pre-adoptive parents. Adult adoptees. People in open adoptions and people in closed adoptions. People who have a favorable view of adoption and people who don't, as well as people with views along the continuum.

In the coming weeks, tune in for answers from Jim Gritter to questions the group posed to him. He has graciously agreed to answer them for us, so make sure to come back or, better yet, subscribe.

So come along on each stop. EVERYONE is welcome to read and comment on the blogs of the participants below respectfully -- even if you haven't read the book. In fact, it would be especially rewarding for the tour participants if you DO comment. It's highly likely that a lot of time and thought has gone into each person's contribution. Leaving a comment is kind of like clapping at the end of a play -- it lets those on stage know you were there, adding your energy to the performance.

The Open Adoption Examiner page will host future book tours. If you've got a book idea that has relevance to all members of the adoption triad, please email me your suggestion. Participants in the LifeGivers tour will vote on which book we discuss next.

Your book tours are an amazing way to bring people together to express their thoughts, learn from each other and connect to each other.

    Thank you!
