Life-size Barbie with measurements of 39-18-33 shows disproportion (Video)

Dr. Drew got to meet the Barbie of our childhood. The doll that little girls consider a role model and will attempt to emulate her got a chance to be lifelike to attract attention to what she would look like in real life. The measurements of the perfect woman better known as Barbie were brought to life on his show Monday night with College student Galia Slayen.

Hoping to raise awareness about eating disorders, Slayen took to the project of creating a life-size Barbie and sharing it with others to make a point about body images and what girls think when they hear the measurements of Barbie.  What you see is 39-18-33 and a shockingly disfigured human being. While the measurements could be argued that they aren’t perfect, the image is definitely disturbing and hard to turn away from.

“Most people are shocked,” says Galia Slayen who made the doll for her school to show classmates.” The general reaction of men and woman is shock.”

Estimates are that anorexia, bulimia and binge eating effects more than 36 million people in the United States. Anorexia and bulimia are severe, life-threatening disorders, and binge eating can cause a host of medical problems, yet many individuals with the illnesses don’t seek treatment immediately.

Dr. Drew has been highlighting society issues on his new show, the Dr. Drew Show on CNN. Giving the chance to bring in people who may not be experts, but definitely have opinions about matters had brought a steady following to the show. Galia Slayen is a perfect example on how Dr.Drew is connecting with his audience instead of talking above the audience.
