Dear Cheryl:
Recently I sold my home of many years. As I was cleaning out the place, I came across many items that I have saved over the years in remembrance of loved ones. I found some of my children’s baby clothes, a wedding dress that belonged to my grandmother, a quilt that my mother had made, baby afghans my grandmother had crocheted, and other similar items. Every item is special to me, but I do not have room for them all in the place I am moving. Is there a way I can still preserve these precious items? I really do hate to get rid of them. I would like to pass them along to my children one day.
Collecting Memories in Charlotte
Dear Collecting Memories,
Memories are beautiful, and the great thing about them is that they will always be with you…even if you no longer have the items you mentioned. However, if you do feel the need to keep some of the items, I would suggest that you make a memory collage or quilt with the items.
There are several different ways of doing this, and you will have to do a bit of research on your own to find the best fit for you. If you choose a collage, you would take parts of all of the items that are special to you and include them all in a beautiful work of art that you can frame and hang on the wall. Chances are that up to this point you have had the items stored away where you can’t even see them. This way, they will always be around for you to see and remember. If you choose to make a quilt, then you would have another beautiful item of remembrance that you could keep within view.
Both ways are a great way to honor and to remember your loved ones.
