Echo, as defined by the Encarta dictionary, means a reflection of sound, imitation of something. If you think about this word in a bigger sense, relevant to your life, what does your lifestyle echo?
You’re probably thinking about a time when you were able to yell, maybe in the hallway at school, and you were able to hear your own voice return as an echo. It is actually a pretty cool phenomenon.
Worsley School on-line summarizes an explanation of an echo. In their words, “Here's a summary of conditions you need in order to have an echo:
1. The sound must travel a fair distance. We're suggesting at least 75 meters, although you can hear echos from shorter distances under the right conditions.
2. The sound must be able to bounce back. It must hit a flat smooth surface somewhere.
To be able to hear the small amount of returning sound, this also must be true:
3. All other sounds must be absorbed. Snow does this.
or:
4. There must be amplification of the sound, by having more than one smooth surface to bounce it back to you.
And that's what makes an echo!”
Now let’s apply these requirements philosophically to determine your life echo.
Distance, are you present or are you living in the past?
Surface, does your inner self match what is on the surface?
To hear, are you absorbing the reality of your life?
What is your lifestyle amplifying?
Just as sound bounces back in the conditions of a cave, your actions and mind-set creates imitating circumstances that echo back at you. Basically, what you give is what you get back.
This is why it is critical you are present in your life, you are authentic and you face the truth of your being and circumstances.
By doing so, you’re manifesting an echo that is uplifting and positive. You’re creating a force (positive echo) that is embracing your spirit as apposed to one that is holding you back. Put some thought behind this, and if necessary, make the changes needed to reflect your best self!
