On Friday, August 13, life coach Laura Menze inspired 125 Jobs Ministry members at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Naperville to welcome the changes in their lives.

“Change is uneasy and discomforting,” said Menze. "Change means letting go of your comfort zone. At the same time, change can mean excitement and anticipation of something new.”

Menze has traveled the road of change. With MBA in hand, she walked away from a successful corporate career in 2009 to attend The Coaches Training Institute. Now, she serves as a right-hand resource for individuals, businesses, and groups interested in clarifying and attaining their life goals.

As a LifeQuest Alliance life coach, Menze is helping others reach their life’s goals.

“Change equals pain and takes energy,” said Menze. There are four basic steps in the process. The first is Unconscious Incompetence. This translates into “I don’t know what I don’t know.” For job seekers,  that’s the first step in a new direction.

“We need to take that first step and admit our incompetence to move upward,” she said. Equally important is the ability to sidestep saboteurs who thwart attempts at upward mobility such as:

  • well-meaning family members and friends,
  • every day distractions such as the phone, kids, and dog,
  • our own internal gremlins that destroy our self-confidence.

Fear of the unknown is a strong subconscious saboteur. “We need to identify our subconscious saboteurs and choose to change” said Menze.

Her advice to those assembled was to stay focused on their life goals. “This is a chance to redefine yourself and see the new person you are now becoming,” she said.
