In advance of the implementation of the Sequester, President Obama and the Democrat minions did their best “Chicken Little” impression, with their “sky is falling” predictions about the pain that we’d endure if we actually cut federal spending by $85 billion (with a “B”).
Now that the sequester has become law, the Administration has done everything they can to make life as painful as possible and blame it all on the Sequester – even to the extent of shutting down White House tours!
In reality, our current spending levels are approximately $3.7 trillion, or 3700 Billion.
To hear Obama tell it, $85 Billion funds ALL the essential operations of the government... which then begs the question: Since we spend 3.7 Trillion a year, where's the other 3615 Billion going!
If $85 Billion will break the government, why did Obama waste $90 Billion to the failed green energy subsidies?
If SO MUCH government service is paid for by this $85 Billion... why didn't a stimulus of $787 Billion accomplish ANYTHING? We should have been able to fund all these services for a decade on that alone!
If we can provide so many essential services for only $85B, why has our budget increased by more than 1.7 Trillion (1700 Billion) since Pelosi/Reid took control of congress in 2006? Weren't we spending enough back then? The Liberal line at the time was that Bush had spent us into oblivion and things were so bad it required the turnover to the Dems.
For historical perspective, 6 years into Bush’s term, after the dot-com bust, 9/11, and 2 active wars, our debt was $6 Trillion, our deficit was under $150 Billion and our spending was around $2 Trillion. Bush was resoundingly (and perhaps rightly) criticized for taking our debt from $4 Trillion in 2000 to $6 Trillion 6 years later.
Since then, the Democrats have been responsible of exponential increases in spending.
In their first year, Pelosi/Reid tripled the deficit to over $450 Billion, which was $30 Billion worse than Bush’s worst deficit (2003) with a GOP congress.
In their 2nd year, they tripled that again, to an unheard of, almost inconceivable $1.2 Trillion, and the deficit has been in excess of a Trillion each year since. By the time Obama was elected our debt was up to almost $10 Trillion! It took Bush 6 years to add $2 Trillion to the debt with a GOP congress. A Democrat Congress added more than $3 Trillion in 2 years.
Then Obama was elected.
When Obama was sworn in, our debt was $10 Trillion. 4 years later, it was $15 trillion. An increase of 5 Trillion. Bear in mind that in all of American history, it took 43 presidents and over 230 years to amass the first $5 Trillion in debt, and Obama managed to do it again in 4 years!
Spending has nearly doubled since 2006 from around $2 Trillion to $3.7 Trillion.
Total earnings in the USA are approximately 7.8 $Trillion. Current federal spending of $3.7 represents nearly 50% of every dollar made! In 2006 federal spending represented around 30% of total earnings.
It’s not a revenue problem!
But back to sequester.
We are cutting $85 Billion out of $3700 Billion. Let me ask you: If you were making $3700 a week, how hard would it be to cut spending by $85, and how badly would it hurt?
Note, too, that even after the sequester cuts, spending is still UP from 2 years ago.
So why the dire predictions, and why is the administration deliberately trying to make any cuts as painful as possible? (Even to the point that the Administration has admonished department heads who've offered ways of cutting sensibly so as to reduce impact of the cuts - instructing them not to hurt the doomsday narrative they've established.) Why exaggerate the impact of an $85 Billion reduction of a $3700 Billion annual spending rate?
Once the American people realize that actual cuts in spending (not reduction of the rate or size of increases!) can actually be accomplished without the world collapsing, they will demand more of the same. Since Democrats depend heavily on spending to support their power structure, they are threatened by any attempt to actually reduce spending and will do anything they can to make ANY cut painful and abhorrent to the low-information voter.
We must expose this fraud, and continue to demand deeper cuts. And since less than 1/3 of our spending is spent on actual necessary goods and services, infrastructure and administration of necessary functions of Government… it is essential that Entitlements be revisited and curtailed.
