As part of the summer reading program of the ABC (Albuquerque Bernalillo County) libraries, they encourage kids to read during the summer by encouraging them in fun ways. The 'Live Birds of Prey by Wildlife Rescue Inc.' is visiting libraries around Albuquerque and Bernalillo County to give a live presentation about wildlife. They will be bringing along real live birds such as an owl, hawk and falcon for the kids to see up close and personal. The Wildlife Rescue Inc. will be teaching the kids about how humans and wildlife can work work together to keep our environment safe for birds to thrive in. They'll teach about environmental hazards, man-made obstacles, habitat loss, forest fires and pollution. These are all real threats to New Mexico wildlife and we can be part of making it cleaner and safer for ourselves and the wildlife that are native to our state.
Kids will get to see these magnificent winged creatures in person and not behind a cage. While it is likely that they cannot touch the birds, they can view them from up close and see how they interact with the audience and their handler. They will learn all about each bird, including about how it eats, where it lives and how it came into contact with Wildlife Rescue Inc. Curious kids should come prepared to ask their questions because there is time devoted to answering questions from the audience. They want you to be familiar with wildlife so that we can know how to best treat them and interact in their environment. Cameras are also welcome.
