The Director of the Loyola University of Chicago School of Law Library, also known as the Law Library, will work for the Law School (School Of Law-02700A) at the Water Tower Campus in downtown Chicago. The Law Library has been an integral part of the law school since it began in 1870 as the Lincoln College of Law. The library staff is service-oriented and vigorously participates in the educational life of the School of Law. The Law Library works cooperatively with the university's libraries and other law libraries to provide cutting edge information services in support of the curriculum of the law school's faculty and student research needs.
The School of Law operates a dual division program with a total enrollment of 825 J.D. students and over 300 graduate students in various programs. The School of Law also offers interdisciplinary dual degree graduate programs with other colleges within Loyola University Chicago. The law school has 50 full-time faculty. The Director of the Law Library reports to the Dean of the School of Law and is responsible for the operation of the Law Library. The director's responsibilities include long-range planning; budget planning and control; personnel management; collection development; legal research instruction in both the first year program and in the upper level; and facilities maintenance. The director is responsible for developing and executing plans for meeting the information and technology needs of faculty, students, and the wider Loyola community.
Applicants must hold two degrees from accredited programs: a J.D. (Juris Doctorate, also known as a Doctorate of Jurisprudence) and a M.L.S. (Master of Library Science) or M.L.I.S. (Master of Library and Information Science), “and have substantial experience in law library administration. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding knowledge of the research, teaching, educational, and technological needs of the School of Law faculty and student body; possess a strong service orientation; show excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; and have a proven record of creative leadership... The Librarian, HSD will work at the Health Sciences Library for the Library Health Science Division (Library HSD - 06800A) at the Maywood Campus in west suburban Maywood, Illinois. This is a full-time university staff position. The job was posted on February 5, 2013.
The successful candidate must have an ALA-accredited MLS degree or equivalent supplemented by two-to-five years of experience in an academic health sciences library or hospital library. He or she will assist faculty, students, researchers, clinicians, and staff to access and use the library's full range of information resources effectively; provide expert research and reference services from various points across campus; develop and present workshops in information literacy/skills to support education, patient care, curriculum, and lifelong needs; engage in outreach to promote and expand library service to internal and external communities; proactively works in a team-based environment that is committed to outstanding customer service; and perform related duties as required.
He or she must have a demonstrated knowledge of web design; working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Drupal, CSS and HTML and various web editors; demonstrated proficiency with citation management tools, RefWorks, EndNote and Mendeley; familiarity with various online learning environments including Blackboard and Sakai; and working knowledge of Adobe connect and other video conferencing systems for distance education. The Library Coordinator will work at the Cudahy Library (Library - Cudahy-02910A) at the Lake Shore Campus in Rogers Park on the Far North Side of Chicago. This is a part-time university staff position. The job was posted on February 8, 2013.
The Library Coordinator will perform “outreach and advancement duties for the libraries in three areas: 1) developing public programs; 2) planning and coordinating events; and 3) supporting the activities of the Friends of the Loyola University Chicago Libraries. The goals of this position are 1) to raise the visibility of the University Libraries on and off campus; 2) to increase the number of cultural and literary events sponsored by the Libraries and the Friends; and 3) to strengthen the Friends organization and its role in the Loyola community.”
In close consultation with the Dean, [the Library Coordinator will] plan continuing program series and develop new programs. Research and recommend potential speakers and secure speakers for major programs including the annual Terry Lecture and the Friends of the Libraries Speaker Series (3-4 series events per year); coordinate contracts, travel arrangements, and honoraria. Manage all aspects of public events sponsored by the University Libraries and the Friends of the Libraries. With the support of the department's administrative assistant, locate and reserve appropriate venues; plan catering, coordinate special requests with facilities, campus security, media services, and the campus bookstore as needed. Work with the University to provide online registration for events. Organize and execute other similar duties to ensure quality, smooth-running events.
The Library Coordinator will develop a promotional plan for each event and create relevant marketing materials; collaborate with library staff and University Marketing and Communication to create posters, flyers, and invitations; manage designated activities of the Friends of the Loyola University Chicago Libraries including planning Board and Executive Committee meetings, working on-site during Friends' events, communicating with the membership and Board members, and assisting the Dean with growing the Friends membership; manage the Friends of the Libraries membership organization process, including logistics, communication, databases, and renewal appeals; manage the Friends of the Libraries web and social media presence through blogging, and website development and updates, and use of various social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) with frequent postings and photo uploads; manage online communications including e-newsletters and email announcements to Friends and other interested groups; develop and coordinate methods for recognizing and maintaining regular contact with past donors to the libraries; draft and edit written materials such as letters, proposals, solicitations, acknowledgements, newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, and public information on important gifts, programs, accomplishments or events; prepare background research and other special materials for the dean's use during donor and outreach activities; identify grant opportunities and collaborate with appropriate colleagues on proposal preparation; understand the libraries' priorities and directions, especially priorities likely to resonate with alumni and friends, and apply this understanding to program development; maintain effective working relationships with other Loyola Departments engaged in related activities on behalf of the libraries, including University Advancement and University Marketing and Communication; serve as Library Administration's liaison to the University Libraries Public Relations and Outreach Committee; and coordinate and participate in special projects and undertake other duties related to programming and outreach as assigned.
The successful candidate will need a minimum of three years' program-and-event-planning experience in a non-profit situation, preferably in higher education; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong organizational skills; and the ability to work independently.
