Milpitas, CA (October 12) -- The Milpitas Library Advisory Commission (LAC) announced its 1st Annual Student Essay Contest 2011 after the City Council has approved a $2,500.00 financial assistance to be used as cash prizes to the winners.

The essay contest was launched in observance of National Library Week on Aprill 10 - 16, 2011 with a theme: "Create your own story @ your library".

Co-sponsored by the Milpitas Community Library, the esay contest is part of a series of activities celebrating the importance of the library, acknowledging the contributions of the nation's libraries and librarians, and promoting library use and support.

The essay contest will give students the chance to amplify their personal stories or involvement in the use of the library in their quest for higher education.

By entering in the contest, students will improve their knowledge on the library as an important resource, while at the same time winning substantial cash and other prizes.

A special meeting of the Library Advisory Commission will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Milpitas Community Library's Main Conference Room to discuss and formalize the rules in the conduct of the essay contest.

Criteria for judging will likewise be discussed and a selection process for judges will be in place. The Commissison will also formalize the timetable, so all students intending to participate will be notified of the start of the essay, rules, and the deadline for submission of entries.

The awarding of prizes will culminate during the National Library Week on April 10 - 16, 2011 to be held at a place to be designated by the Commission.

This early, students wanting to participate in the essay contest may look forward for the final rules to be posted the soonest so they can prepare to write their essays.
