LibertyBin interview: Facebook alternative for liberty lovers (Photos)

Offering itself as an alternative social media, LibertyBin.com officially launched in January with the ambition "to be the world's premiere social media program."

Wondering if its name might also lean toward being "LibertarianBin" (it's not called GenericBin or EveryoneBin after all) Jacob Alexander, LibertyBin's Co-Founder, Director of Operations, and Site Manager responded to Libertarian News Examiner's request for this exclusive interview.

Libertarian News Examiner: Tell me about the people behind LibertyBin.

Jacob Alexander: The LibertyBin team is made up of Chris Miles, Paulina Garcia, and myself. We all supported both Ron Paul and Gary Johnson in their Presidential campaigns of 2012.

LNE: Who or what brought you to libertarianism?

Alexander: At a young age, I started reading about the constitution. I supported Ron Paul in the 08 campaign. I would stand on busy street corners with homemade signs by myself with hardly any response from people. After the election I began to do an immense amount of reading. Starting with Ron Paul's A Foreign Policy of Freedom. Reading pages of John Locke lead to Hayek's Road to Serfdom. I have trailed through the pages of Freidman, Rothbard, Ayn Rand, Bastiat, and others. I became ashamed that I voted for George Bush and cheered when he sent troops to the Middle East. Come the following election, I realized my fight for Paul would need to reach more receptive people. That's when I decided to turn to Facebook. I started Paulitcs SLC. Come caucus time I managed to not only secure the votes needed for State delegate but I was also elected as the precinct chairman. By the end of the state convention however I was so disgusted as to what politics really was all about, I knew my fight for change wasn't gonna happen through inside politics.

LNE: So you started LibertyBin?

Alexander: Facebook was deleting posts, banning people, and limiting the users from spreading information in many ways. The frustration was apparent by the Facebook liberty community. My good friends Paulina, Chris and I created LibertyBin, a program with the power of Facebook but without all the censoring and spying. An alternative that lets you be free.

LNE: What is your goal for LibertyBin?

Alexander: To keep people's information secure and safe while giving people the tools to connect with others and spread free information. Since liberty is based on truth, I believe this will empower the entire Liberty movement.
