Liberty scores an extra inning win

The Liberty Lady Panthers and Huffman Lady Falcons played thier usual dramatic softball roles on Friday night in Huffman. The two teams combined to pound out 22 hits and score 19 runs in an exciting extra inning offensive battle that featured four lead changes. When the dust settled, Liberty had prevailed 11-8.

Kaitlyn Slack's one out double drove in Allison Meche from third to give Liberty a 1-0 lead. Kaylee Parker and Slack both scored on a two run single by Katie Harris giving the Lady Panthers and starting pitcher Andee Geter a 3-0 lead after a half inning.

Huffman rebounded in the bottom of the first with a run of their own when Bailey Sousa scored on an error by centerfielder Madison Cook. It was the first of four Lady Panther errors.

The Lady Falcons struck for four more runs in the home half of the second. A basesloaded walk, a two run double and error led to Huffman leading 5-2 after two inninngs.

The two teams exchanged fourth inning runs. Huffman scored twice more in the fifth and held an 8-4 lead with Liberty coming to bat in the sixth. Liberty exploded for four runs sending eleven batters to the plate tying the game at 8-8.

Things quieted down after that until Liberty came to the plate in the top of the ninth. With one out, Slack delivered the game winning hit; a two run triple scoring both Meche and Geter. Slack later scored on a Kurstin Martin single and an 11-8 lead.

Slack who had relieved Geter in the pitching circle in the second shut down the Lady Falcons in the ninth to preserve the Lady Panthers second consecutive win against three losses.

Slack finished the night with three hits and three rbi's from the plate and struck out five, walked four, scattered six hits and allowed three runs over the final 71/3 innings from the pitcher's circle.
