Some fifty years ago this week, President Dwight David Eisenhower offered a solemn and ominous warning about the inherent danger of too much power being vested in the industrial militarily complex, his words unfortunately have become prophetic reality, detailed below is a portion of his farewell address to the nation, links to the entire speech and video here.
{The conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence – economic, political, even spiritual – is felt in every city, every Statehouse, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.}
Today marks a brief period when many a website will go dark, it’s to call attention to the most recent abuse practiced by the political pedophiles that constitute what we have come to call the powers that be.
SOPA and PIPA are bills that if made into law, will impose even more draconian regulatory authority over the internet, An internet already too stifled too restrained, SOPA and PIPA in a nutshell stand exposed as yet another attempt to shackle the wondrous technological venue for free speech, education and human expression, the worldwide internet.
The rule of law that protected Americans from the tyranny of plutocrats was not abrogated in a single action, rather like innocent youngsters who becomes targets of the molester, the people were groomed by those they were confident could be trusted, the American Politician.
There was a time in America, when politicians like pedophiles, feared above all else, public exposure of their true character, as a young man, I saw a Vice President resign in utter disgrace and later stand a convicted felon and lived to see a Vice-President boast how the statute of limitations has passed on his crimes.
It’s non partisan of course, Republicans and Democrats have joined as one to pass laws that exempt them from criminal prosecution of what was once considered high treason and malfeasance, politicians craft immunity for themselves, even as they pass laws that take away from, We The People, those rights and liberties enshrined in the constitution as being endowed by our creator and to be treated as inalienable, which was the founders way of saying you get Life and Liberty as a birth right, happiness being a state of mind you have to pursue.
Despite the repetitive pontification of pundits and politicians who insist 21st century practicality and the need for security from the shadowy enemy prohibits restoration of pre 9-11freedoms and liberty, Americans could were they to so desire, begin the process of restoring civil liberty and the rule of law during the course of a single day, by voting to elect progressive democrat and republican candidates.
Politicians have these last ten years passed laws like the Patriot act, putrid perfidy which compromises the very spirit of constitutional freedom and fundamental precepts of liberty. If made into law, SOPA and PIPA would become more nails plutocrats use in their merciless rape and crucifixion of lady liberty.
Happily I can report enough of us have protested and the powers that be currently stand frustrated at the prospect of more and more Americans deciding it’s time they participated in the exercise of democracy, political plutocrats like school yard bullies, are craven cowards to the core and the election of 2012 may signal another historical moment in the unfolding American journey,
The Great depression gave way to the new deal as the horror and battles of World War Two ushered in the explosion of an educated middle class, which saw the end of segregation and birth of feminism,
It’s time perhaps, for the pendulum to swing back toward the middle again, one can never tell, that’s the risk of democracy, The people sometimes fail to see, the great threat, that true enemy to our way of life which politicians warn lurk in the shadows, is actually standing in plain sight, a little to their right, seeking high office.
