Even as you read this today members of the Tarrant County Libertarian Party are busily turning chicken wire, duct tape, posters and other "stuff" into a parade float.
The 2013 Tarrant County Gay Pride Parade struts its stuff in the streets of Cowtown beginning at high noon on Saturday, October 5, and for the first time the Tarrant County Libertarian Party will be strutting right along with them.
"We've participated in Dallas's Alan Ross Gay and Lesbian Pride parade," TCLP chair Allen Patterson notes, "but we've never been a part of the Fort Worth equivalent. It's time that we do so, right? We're going to participate in the 2013 Tarrant County Gay Pride Parade!"
While the national parade theme is "Pride 365" the LPer's float has its own thematic message: "The Libertarian Party – promoting marriage equality since 1972."
That theme reflects the fact that marriage equality, unlike the late-coming Democrats and Republicans, has been part of the Libertarian Party's platform from the very beginning.
Doubters can read it for themselves on the TCLP Float's "Fundly" crowdfunding site, a site that will gladly accept your donations right up until the night before the parade, which will be staged along Weatherford and Burnett streets.
"We cannot throw beads from the float," says Patterson, "but people walking alongside the float can hand them out."
And no one will be surprised if that also includes distributing information leaflets about the Libertarian Party itself.
