Glenn Beck announced on Tuesday his latest plans to expand his media company. The Blaze, a well-known Republican news site, will be refocused as a “libertarian” network. Beck, who compared Rick Santorum to George Washington in the 2012 election, stated Tuesday that he considers himself a libertarian.
"I consider myself a libertarian... I'm a lot closer to Penn Jillette than I am to Chuck Hagel," Beck said during his online television program Tuesday. Beck also showed a teaser for a new show titled For the Record. Beck plans For the Record to be a 30-minute nightly newsmagazine show. "Our Nightline will be a nightly half hour broadcast to update you on a topic that no one else quite frankly has the balls to do. I will," he said.
It is no secret that libertarians around the country were angered with the Republican Party’s endorsement of Mitt Romney, as well as their treatment of Ron Paul during the Republican National Convention. Glenn Beck believes he can brand a network “libertarian” and attract those the Republican Party previously alienated. Libertarians on Facebook are already buzzing about Beck, many of whom believe Beck is just another Republican.
While they joked about the fact that Glenn Beck had not trademarked the phrase “liberty movement”, many were upset by Beck’s claim. Edgardo Peregrino stated that Beck is “as much a libertarian as bigfoot is a hairy human”. Mike Hanson stated that if Glenn Beck is a libertarian, so is Rick Perry. Many libertarians on Facebook agreed with Gerard Krausch however, when he stated “liberty is not something you can hijack”.
