Liberals blame NRA, Tea Party for D.C. shooting, hope Republicans shot

On Thursday, a woman with a young child attempted to drive through a White House barricade in Washington, D.C. She was shot by police after leading them on a chase through the Capitol, CNS News said. But liberals on Twitter immediately blamed the NRA and the Tea Party, Twitchy said. Some expressed hope that Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and other Republicans were shot in the incident.

"Shooting near the Capitol. Surprise? Was someone coming for Cruz?" one person asked.

"Is it wrong to wish Cruz Boehner Cantor Ryan were in the path of the bullets (sic)? No.. not really," another Twitter user said.

"Is someone finally 'taking out' the GOP #teaparty at the Capitol? One can only dream," tweeted "rockie." The tweet was deleted but not before being captured by Twitchy.

"Sadly, not one shot hit Ted Cruz, John Boehner, Justice Scalia, or any of the other g****m idiots," added another Twitter user.

According to reports, all the shots were fired by police and Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said he did not believe the woman was armed.

"There was no return fire," he said.

NBC Washington, however, said the woman began shooting after exiting her vehicle.

Nevertheless, some blamed the NRA and the Tea Party for the shooting.

"The Capitol Hill shooter was arrested. No report yet if he is a card carrying teababgger (sic)... or just an ordinary #NRA fan hopped up on Beck," said one woefully uninformed Twitter user.

"Officer shot. Shut down the @nra #GOPshutdown," added "mcbyrne."

While one Secret Service agent was reportedly injured, Twitchy said it was the result of the agent being struck by a car. According to CNS, the agent was flipped over the hood of the woman's car.

"#nra supporter fires gun outside of capital," added another Twitter user, despite the lack of evidence the shooter -- who according to reports was a police officer -- is a member of the NRA.

The overheated reaction to Thursday's incident is fairly common. In practically every situation, the perpetrator is presumed to be a member of the Tea Party or the NRA, and liberals express hope that conservatives are the target. In practically every case, the initial assumptions generally turn out to be incorrect.

"We now return you to being lectured by the Left about the 'new tone,'” Twitchy said.

According to CNS, Capitol Police were working without pay as a result of the partial government shutdown brought about by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's refusal to consider a single GOP proposal to fund the government while defunding or delaying Obamacare.

Update: The woman was identified by the Hartford Courant as 34-year-old Miriam Carey, a Stamford dental hygienist with a history of mental health issues. Her motives are unknown at this time.
