A video came from band member Niall Horan's Twitter account that featured Liam Payne announcing the news on Friday (January 24).

“Our next single is going to be ‘Midnight Memories,’ which is actually one of the songs that I wrote with Louis,” Liam says in the video. “This is the first song we wrote on the album so this kinda like paved the way for this whole album, the sound, the way it all changes. It’s a big big tune, it’s all about midnight memories, everyone’s got them. So hope you enjoy it!”

“Midnight Memories” follows previous singles “Best Song Ever” and “Story of My Life.” SOML has proven to be a huge hit in the United States, it is the boys’ biggest song on U.S. radio since “What Makes You Beautiful” in 2012. It first entered the top ten on the Billboard radio charts a few weeks ago and as of Thursday it at #6 on the Mediabase Top 40 radio airplay charts, just about a thousand spins behind Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse.”

The music video for the song will be premiering on January 31 at 4pm GMT (9am MST) on VEVO. The band previewed the videos with photos on their official Tumblr page. In the photos, the boys appear to be teaming up with elderly folks on scooters. You can see those photos in the attached slideshow.

Do you think “Midnight Memories” is the right choice as the next single? Or would you have picked a different track?
