This is, of course, the time to catch up on movies that came out in 2012 and you may have missed. While you can also still catch a number of the Oscar nominated films at the theaters, there are more and more movies that came out last summer hitting the DVD shelves in your local stores or showing up on your cable OnDemand channel. Now, given the state of the films in theaters these days, might be time to catch one of these at home.
Here are the movies new to DVD January 15, 2013:
Taken 2 - Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen. The sequel to the surprise hit of a few years ago, picks up where the first one left off. It turns out that Neeson’s character killed so many people in the first film that it takes a plane to transport the bodies back home. Now, the father of the man he killed to rescue his daughter in the first film wants revenge. Thus begins the movie that features Neeson, essentially, beating up the rest of Europe that he missed in the first film. Rated PG-13.
The Possession - Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Natasha Calis. Supposedly loosely based on a true story, this horror film features a young girl who finds a mysterious box at a garage sale. Her father, wishing to indulge her after dealing with his recent divorce, agrees. Soon the young girl starts acting strangely and in terrifying ways. It turns out the box possessed an evil spirit that had been trapped inside, but has now been set free. Rated PG-13.
Won’t Back Down - Maggie Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Oscar Isaac. Another movie very loosely based on real life events, it features mothers who decide that they are fed up with the way in which their children’s public schools are teaching their children. So, they decide to take over the school and handle things their own way. Rated PG.
