LI makes magazine's 'top wine destinations' list

New York's Finger Lakes arguably has a PR machine that puts Long Island's to shame, especially when it comes to using its wineries as a come-on.

So, it may have come as a surprise today when the influential Wine Enthusiast magazine released its list of its "10 Best Wine Travel Destinations 2013" and only one New York wine region was on it: Long Island.

The magazine's editors say this about the list: "From classic regions to lesser-known corners, our editors select this year's best in wine, food and cultural adventure."

The top 10:

  1. Rioja, Spain
  2. Danube, Austria
  3. North and South Forks, Long Island
  4. Stellenbosch, South Africa
  5. Monterey County, Californa
  6. Vale dos Vinhedos, Brazil
  7. Willamette Valley, Oregon
  8. Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia
  9. Douro Valley, Portugal
  10. Puglia, Italy
